Music Monday: Electricity

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! Electricity has been important ever since Dylan picked up that axe-targeted guitar. Who cares if it really happened or not? All that matters is the story has kept on shooting through the wires of rock. Five electric songs to follow.

Spiritualized - Electricty

You couldn't really make this song as effective with an acoustic. A lot of what makes electric guitar so cool is that you can really hear the power going through the strings. Distortion might not be something you can really put into musical notes, but you sure can hear when it's not there.

Four more after the jump. Wear rubber soles.

U2 - Electrical Storm

U2 is on the fade these days, as their arena anthem sound is not really in fashion, but this particular song is a nice reminder of what they used to be at their height. It's the kind of thing you wouldn't ever call their best, but you might sit down and listen to if it was happening as you passed it by. Just like a thunderstorm in summer, really. It's a chance to rest and reflect on what got you here. And then, it's gone. And you're back to the now.

OMD - Electricty

OMD offers the cold, crisp side of electric noise, the blue-white sound of an ice flow. It's not the same as a distortion pedal, but it's no less good. Just different. Just different.

The Cult - Electric Ocean

See? Different. But try to imagine The Cult without that voice and that ringing guitar. It just wouldn't work! Every electric band needs the circuit in the right place, or else the power just don't flow.

Giorgio Moroder with Philip Oakey - Together In Electric Dreams

But just remember, no matter where we are or who we're with, we'll always be together. <3
