Music Monday: Songs About Clothes

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! Today we're preparing for the new year by picking out a new winter wardrobe. This week Scott's picked out five songs about clothes! Dress yourself in musical style, and join in!

Steely Dan - The Fez

In some cultures, you're not fully dressed until you put on your hat. In others, the hat is more ceremonial. Which sort of culture do YOU fit into best? Discuss.

We're choosing the rest of our clothes after the jump. Come on in and dress with us.

Weezer - Undone (The Sweater Song)

A light sweater works well for a cool spring day. A heavy sweater works great on a cold winter's night. It's all the power of a shirt, but mixed with the magic of a jacket. And a sweater with POCKETS? Man! Talk about the clothing lottery!

The Smiths - Hand In Glove

Gloves are both useful and stylish, depending on the situation. They can protect your hands from the cold, or they can add a little bit of flair. They might also protect your delicate cuticles from dishwashing soap. But usually one wouldn't wear those out of the house, would one?

Ladytron - Blue Jeans

Jeans started as clothes a grown-up could wear at work. Then they became a sign of the common man. Then they because a sign of youth culture, sex, and money. Today they're all of the above simultaneously. Possibly no other clothing has changed with the times as much as blue jeans.

Kate Bush - The Red Shoes

Shoes may not be the first type clothing a naked human would reach for, but they're perhaps the best symbol of civilization. Little kids get to run around barefoot, sure. But when it's time to head to school, or work, or church, or even the convenience store... you gotta have some shoes.

Dress our comments in your clothing songs and walk our virtual runway. Oh, and as always, let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia pages and are here under fair use.
